NEWS BITS:
.........................................................................
April 2007
Robyn has been selected as a finalist in the Tucson Folk Festival Songwriting Competition for the third year running.
.........................................................................
January 2007
Returned from our annual ten-day songwriting retreat to the news that "Say Goodbye" won first place in the 2006 International Narrative Song Competition, in the Romantic Song category. The contest director wrote in an email, "You are brilliant romantic storytellers!" Also, "I'm In Love" won an honorable mention in the same competition. FURTHER, a few days later, "I'm in Love" and "When I Get There" both advanced to the next round of judging in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition.
We start 2007 with our first show at Cafe Luna in a year--in fact, one year to the day!
.........................................................................
September 2006 - December 2006
A bit of an autumn lull, for various (non-musical) reasons--but the recognition didn't slow down. Robyn won an Honorable Mention in Nashville's River Bluff Music Festival Song Competition ("While Trees Fall") and, with the same song, a finalist slot in Brooklyn, NY's Williamsburg Live Songwriting Competition. We played a handful of wonderful private parties in the fall, but no public duo gigs. In October, Robyn appeared in a fantastic, well-attended Songwriters In The Round night at Vashon's Blue Heron Arts Center with NW powerhouses Linda Waterfall and Larry Murante.

August 2006
Could such an exciting July have been outdone? Perhaps only this way:"While Trees Fall" won second place in the Acoustic/Folk category of the enormous Unisong International Songwriting Competition, out of thousands of international entries. The song also was also a Top 20 Winner in the contest's Social/Political Category; Robyn's unrecorded song "State of Grace" won Top 20 in the Lyrics Only category; the co-written "Say Goodbye" won honorable mention in Acoustic/Folk; and Steve's newer "Comes a Flood" won honorable mention in the Americana category. A call from the contest founder informed us that rarely does an artist sweep so many categories.
.........................................................................
July 2006
Wow, quite a month! Robyn is not only performing as a finalist in the 2006 KRCL/Founder's Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival Performing Songwriter Showcase July 8, but won first place in the Woody Guthrie Songwriting Competition (AND an honorable mention too!) and has a main stage slot at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival July 13. Plus, she's a finalist in Vermont's Solarfest Performing Songwriter's Showcase (second year in a row). Steve played several shows at Cafe Luna on Vashon with Brent Magstadt, Charlie Spring and Brad Yaeger.

May 2006
Robyn was selected as a finalist in the 2006 KRCL/Founder's Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival Performing Songwriter Showcase. Last month, "Closing Time," "When I Get There" AND "Say Goodbye" all won honorable mentions in the 2005 Billboard Song Contest (one of Steve's, one of Robyn's, and one co-write!). Also, Steve's "Cutthroat" won an honorable mention in the 2006 Peacedriven Songwriting Competition, and Robyn's "While Trees Fall" was one of the 40 semifinalists in that contest. Both were chosen out of 500 entries. Now off to the Tucson Folk Festival--see below!
.........................................................................
March 2006
Robyn just selected as finalist in Tucson Folk Festival 2006 song competition--second year in a row! S&S also playing the Tucson Folk Festival's main stage this year (that's in May). And, Steve was selected as one of three finalists in the Susquehanna Folk Music Society songwriting contest! Playing Richland, Leavenworth and Bainbridge this month--see calendar for details on those and beyond. We're performing some newly-written (and resurrected) songs these days--come and check it out!

January 2006
Happy New Year! Took some time off Oct-Dec., then went on a songwriting retreat and wrote lots of new stuff. Stay tuned! Played Cafe Luna January 20; coming up, shows in AZ (yay, sun!) and around Washington state. Also found out While Trees Fall has advanced to the second round of judging in the International Songwriting Competition, whose judges include Tom Waits, Loretta Lynn and Amy Ray! The New York Times calls the ISC "THE songwriting competition to take note of." And, KBCS dj Ginger Hopper chose our CD as one of her favorites of 2005, and named Steve's In Your Arms among her favorites on the CD.
.........................................................................
September 2005
Short & Sweet played at the Tumbleweed Music Festival and competed in the song contest there (one of 10 finalists). Appearing with virtuoso NW fiddler Paul Elliott at Ravenna Third Place Books on Sept. 17! Starting now, all our CDBaby sales go direct to the Red Cross for Katrina victims.

While Trees Fall won first prize in the acoustic category in the William Robert Abate Songwriting Competition.
