Our 2006 Journal OCTOBER: Robyn appeared in a fantastic, well-attended Songwriters In The Round night at Vashon's Blue Heron Arts Center with Northwest powerhouses Linda Waterfall and Larry Murante. And if that wasn't enough, While Trees Fall also won Robyn an Honorable Mention in Nashville's River Bluff Music Festival Song Competition and finalist slot in Brooklyn, NY's Williamsburg Live Songwriting Competition. JULY: Robyn appears July 8 in the 2006 KRCL/Founder's Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival Performing Songwriter Showcase and July 13 at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival (for winning first place in the 2006 Woody Guthrie Songwriting Competition with Glad To Hear The Rain--AND, I'm In Love also won an honorable mention in the same contest!). She is also an alternate finalist in the 2006 Solarfest Songwriter's Showcase on July 16. Steve played several shows at Cafe Luna on Vashon with Brent Magstadt, Charlie Spring and Brad Yaeger. JUNE: Our first time in the Inland Empire at The Shop in Spokane! MAY: Robyn was selected as a finalist in the 2006 KRCL/Founder's Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival Performing Songwriter Showcase. The showcase is July 8 in Salt Lake City and the festival headlines Greg Brown, Cliff Eberhardt, Christine Kane, and Christine Lavin. Also just learned that our co-written song Say Goodbye received an honorable mention in the 2006 West Coast Songwriter's International Song Contest! Also played Northwest Folklife Festival on Memorial Day Weekend. APRIL: Received THREE honorable mentions in the 2006 Billboard Song Contest! One was for our co-written song Say Goodbye and the others for Steve's Closing Time and Robyn's When I Get There! Plus, Steve's Cutthroat won an honorable mention in the 2006 Peacedriven Songwriting Competition, and Robyn's While Trees Fall was one of the 40 semifinalists in that contest. Both were chosen out of 500 entries. MARCH: Played Richland's Three Rivers Folklife Society coffeehouse and visited friends we made at Tumbleweed Music Festival last year. What a neat community. March also brought us back to Pegasus Coffeehouse on Bainbridge, and for the first time to Leavenworth (with Paul Elliott--what a treat!) for its community coffeehouse concert series. Steve's new song, Comes A Flood, was selected as one of three finalists in the Susquehanna Folk Music Society Songwriting Contest. We also learned that we were going back to the Tucson Folk Festival first weekend of May, this time on their main stage (an upgrade from last year :) ) and for the second consecutive year Robyn is in their songwriting competition as well. We've been road-testing some of the new songs we've been writing and it's fun! JANUARY: The first week of January, we went away for our own secluded little songwriting retreat. It was awesome! Started a lot of new stuff and we hope to trot out some of it soon. Played Cafe Luna January 20; coming up, shows in AZ (yay, sun!) and around Washington state. Also found out While Trees Fall advanced to the second round of judging in the International Songwriting Competition, whose judges include Tom Waits, Loretta Lynn, LeAnn Rimes, Joss Stone and Amy Ray! The New York Times calls the ISC "THE songwriting competition to take note of." We're told it's an honor to have gone to round two because they received 15,000 entries! And, KBCS dj Ginger Hopper chose our CD as one of her favorites of 2005, and In Your Arms among her favorites on the CD. Our 2005 Journal In July, Winter Blues won honorable mention in the prestigious Woody Guthrie Songwriting Competition! Robyn was also announced among the finalists in the Solarfest Songwriters Showcase (Vermont) and the Tumbleweed Music Festival's Songwriting contest. In June, Short & Sweet won an honorable mention in the 2005 SongPrize.com International Songwriting Competition for Say Goodbye. We also hosted and played an awesome "Patty Griffin Night" at Cafe Luna, and played at Mr. Spot's Chai House in Seattle. Short & Sweet played at the Tucson Folk Festival May 1--AND, additionally, competed as top 10 Finalists in the Festival's songwriting contest April 29 with their co-written song Say Goodbye and Robyn's Winter Blues. Later in May we did a little Southwest tour (played in Phoenix and Tucson), as well as a couple of Seattle and Vashon gigs. In March 2005, Robyn was selected as one of six finalists nationally in the Suwannee Springfest Music Festival songwriter's competition for 2005 for While Trees Fall from Short & Sweet's new CD. She performed three songs at the festival's contest on March 24. On this adventure, we experienced a Gulf Coast storm, discovered The Duhks, and saw Guy Clark and Rodney Crowell play in a tiny house. November 6, 2004 was Short & Sweet's CD release concert at the Vashon Allied Arts New Works Series (Blue Heron Arts Center). It was a blast! |
